Habitat loss
Loggerhead sea turtles need quiet, sandy beaches to lay their eggs, but often these places are taken over by buildings, bright lights, or busy human activities. When beaches are developed, the turtles lose their safe nurseries, and bright lights can confuse baby turtles trying to find the ocean.
Being done about itMany people are working to protect these important nesting beaches by making them national parks or wildlife refuges, and asking coastal communities to dim their lights at night. Conservationists also help by carefully moving turtle nests to safer, darker spots if a beach is too busy.
