Bycatch / Overfishing
Our big Estuarine Grouper friends are in trouble because too many of them are being caught by fishermen. Sometimes they are caught on purpose because they are tasty, and sometimes they get accidentally tangled in nets meant for other fish, which we call bycatch.
Being done about itScientists and rangers are working hard to set special rules, like how many groupers can be caught and what size they need to be, to help their numbers grow again. You can help by choosing to eat seafood that is caught in a way that doesn't harm our ocean animals!
