Gorilla beringei graueri

Hey animal explorers! Get ready to meet one of the most incredible creatures on Earth: the Eastern Lowland Gorilla! Imagine a superhero of the forest, super strong and super smart. These amazing gorillas are the biggest living primates, which means they're the largest of all monkeys, apes, and even us humans! Grown-up males, called silverbacks, are like gentle giants, standing almost six feet tall and weighing more than two grown-up people put together! They have shiny black fur and, as they get older, a cool silvery patch on their backs. With their powerful arms and wise, dark eyes, they truly are an awe-inspiring sight in their jungle home.

These magnificent gorillas live in super-close families, always sticking together. A wise silverback leads the way, guiding his family through the dense rainforest to find their favorite snacks. And guess what? They're vegetarians! They love munching on juicy fruits, tender leaves, and even tree bark. When evening comes, they're like expert builders, making comfy nests out of branches and leaves. They can build them right on the ground or high up in the trees for a safe and sound sleep. Even though they're huge, they're actually quite shy and peaceful, communicating with soft grunts and sometimes impressive chest beats to say hello or show off!

But here's a super special secret: Eastern Lowland Gorillas are also amazing "gardeners of the forest"! As they eat yummy fruits, they help plant new trees by spreading seeds all over the jungle. This helps the whole forest stay healthy and full of life! Sadly, these wonderful creatures are in danger, and there aren't many left. Protecting them means protecting their entire rainforest home, which is super important for all the other animals and plants that live there too. Isn't that incredible?
